MIESCOR bags numerous EPC projects in 2021
MIESCOR’s core business - EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction), continues to flourish, as 14 new contracts have been awarded to the company this 2021.

Strengthening Meralco's distribution network
Serving as the EPC arm of the One Meralco group, MIESCOR continues to reinforce its parent through the EPC of its priority substation developments. Acquired this year are three substation projects from Meralco.

First in the list is the development of Arca South 115 kV – 34.5 kV GIS Substation in Taguig, Metro Manila. Once energized, the new Substation will relieve the critical loading of Sun Valley power transformer and will provide the needed capacity to accommodate the increasing power requirement of Arca South and the City of Taguig due to mass developments within the area.

Another one is the development of Balagtas 115kV – 34.5kV Substation in Balagtas, Bulacan. Last year, Sta. Maria substation has breached the 70% loading threshold of the power transformers due to the aggressive load growth brought by multiple developments and operations of various malls and corporations in the area (i.e., North-South Commuter Rail project, Hightension Industrial Corporation, Vista Mall Sta. Maria, CityMall Bunlo Bocaue). The project aims to alleviate the load from the Sta. Maria power transformers and improve system reliability and power quality within the area. It will also accommodate forecasted load growth in multiple locations in Bulacan, reducing the risk of power outages.

Lastly, the development of the Real 115 kV – 34.5 kV Substation project in Calamba, Laguna was recently awarded to MIESCOR. The project aims to lessen the critical loading of Calamba Power Transformer and will provide the needed capacity to accommodate the increasing power requirement in Calamba, Laguna, particularly the developments inside Light Industry Science Park 2. The project will also reduce system loss and improve system reliability by lessening the exposure of existing distribution feeders in the area.

Engagements with AC Energy
Early this year, MIESCOR also snatched a 230kV Transmission Line bid with Santa Cruz Solar Energy Inc. (SCSEI), a subsidiary of AC Energy which operates a 60-MW solar park in Zambales province, Central Luzon. The project is comprised of a 9-kilometer long 230kV double circuit transmission line that is intended to connect to the 230kV Substation of SCSEI’s solar farm and the Castillejos Substation.

Two (2) other contracts were recently awarded by Bayog Wind Power Corporation (BWPC). These include the procurement and construction of interconnection facilities intended for its 160-megawatt wind farm in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte – the biggest windmill farm in the Philippines. BWPC is a subsidiary of AC Energy Philippines with its joint venture with UPC Renewables.

These projects shall help strengthen the northern part of the country’s Luzon grid and boost the electrification in covered areas.

BESS and FESS Engagements
Ramping up its engagements on sustainable development-related projects, apart from new interconnection facilities projects with renewable energy as the source, MIESCOR has also been involved in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Flywheel Energy Storage Systems (FESS) projects.

Energy Storage Sytems (ESS) is a growing trend in Renewable Energy as they enhance power generation profile and provide reliability as many of these systems can be used for voltage correction and frequency response in the grid.

Fort Pilar Energy, Inc. (formerly known as Hill Trench Power, Inc.), has awarded MIESCOR its two BESS interconnection facility projects in Pitogo and Sangali, Zamboanga.

Aside from these, three (3) BESS projects were awarded to MIESCOR by Universal Power Solutions, Inc. (UPSI). These interconnection facility and BESS projects are located in Lumban, Laguna, Ormoc, Leyte, and in Jasaan, Cagayan De Oro.

UPSI is a subsidiary of SMC Global Power Holdings Corp. UPSI and SMC affiliate companies are rolling out a grid-wide BESS project to help improve power quality in the Philippine Grid System with a total installed capacity of up to 1,000 MWh.

MIESCOR shall also execute Amber-Kinetics Philippines’ Flywheel M1 Test Pit Construction Project. Test pits are an integral component of quality assurance in the production of Amber-Kinetics' flywheel energy storage systems

FESS is designed for utility and commercial applications such as capacity-demand reduction and ancillary services.
